Psychiatry

Psychiatry

Everyone struggles with mental and emotional issues from time to time, but when it affects your ability to cope with daily life, it’s time to get professional help.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty dealing with the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental illness. Preferred Behavioral Health offers tele-health for anyone who needs to see a MD Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist who provides these tele-health services is not an employee but instead is contracted with Preferred Behavioral Health through a vendor Jackson & Coker to provide psychiatric services via telehealth to our clients. This is a service we offer to anyone who needs to see a Psychiatrist and the patients who have tried this tele-health service have given us very positive feedback. Our primary goal is the relief of mental suffering associated with a disorder and improvement of mental well-being.

New Clients:

We perform routine psychiatric assessments for new clients on a daily basis. The assessment includes social and biographical information, direct observations, and data from specific psychological tests along with general medical and psychiatric history. Also a mental health evaluation is performed, evaluating the individual for signs of various mental health diagnoses and stress. A general medical physical exam and laboratory studies are conducted when necessary for a baseline and to seek out other illnesses which may have neuropsychiatric symptoms but are not originating in the brain.

Medication Management

Sometimes psychotherapy with a counselor is just not enough. Preferred Behavioral Health offers psychiatric assessment and medication management all in the same calm, safe, confidential environment. PBH offers tele-health for anyone who needs to see a MD Psychiatrist. Also, through this tele-health service the Advanced Nurse Practitioner is able to collaborate with the doctor and also is able to manage medication prescriptions as needed.

Medication:

The purpose of evaluating and/or prescribing medication for any individual seeking treatment is to reduce symptoms that interfere with the individual’s ability to function effectively and achieve meaningful goals. The array of psychotropic medications currently available provides significant symptom relief for people suffering from a variety of mental health/substance use disorders and can be important in their recovery. As with all other treatment services, it is fundamentally imperative that the client be an active and an informed participant in their treatment plan.
